vibratrion when braking
vibratrion when braking
i get a really bad shaking in my steering wheel when applying the brakes i know it could be rotors , alignment , or upper ball joint s or something else it really is aggrvating to have such a hard vibtaion! i need to try to fix the cheapest things first....my dad is a mechanic so ill help and learn!
When you get on the brakes real hard, does the shaking go away? If so, then it's likely your tension rod bushings. The bushings are liquid filled, so if you slide under the car and find oil on them, then that's a tell-tale sign.
thanks for for the info ill try the brake thing and also look under the car!.... if that doesnt work i think i ll get an alignment ,my steering wheel is ever so slightly off.... so i could kill to birds with one stone... then ill have the rotors looked at if all else fails....are those about the only htings i need to check for?
It's usually easier to replace both tension rods. Replacing the bushings are a pain.
You can buy adjustable tension rods from SPL parts. With these you are able to adjust the toe and the bushings are removed completely. The job itself is pretty easy as long as you have a floor jack, a couple jack stands and some large wrenches and sockets (I believe 19mm, but it could be 17....I can't remember).

Maybe that's why I see carz going down the road sideways. ie: where the back wheels aren't in line with the front wheels. I believe you can adjust your caster a little with the adjustable tension rods, but it's imperative that you adjust the tension rods to where the centerline of the fronts wheels are equal distance to the centerline of the back wheels. Toe is formally adjusted with your tie rod endz.

lol.............. driving with warped rotors and out of balance tires for any length of time will kill all of your suspension and steering components in a very quick way. The largest forces / stresses applied to the chassis are from braking.
I've resurfaced my rotors, and still have that vibration your talking about and pretty bad, thanks for the info on what it probably is, I'll have to check it out and see if I can't get that done pretty soon. Now I just wish I could get rid of the runout on my rotors to stop em from squealing when they get hot...I heard the only way to do this is to either get new rotors, or get em resurfaced on the car so that the runout can be eliminated.

I've had raybestos brand crap on other cars that I had to turn three times b4 they quit warping........... and thamn don't even mention the ford factory crap.
I didn't by brembos for my Z for the name. I bought them for the quality of materials and manufacturing.
