Possible Vacuum Leak?

My daughter drives a 1992 300ZX and has been having problems with her brakes. Last week when the temperture dropped, she drove it when it was still cold. When she went to stop at a red light the brake light and the stop/tail warning light came on. There was also a tapping sound coming from the front left hand side. When she gave it gas all these problems went away. The next morning I went out to warm it up and they returned, plus I notice when I put my foot on the brake the shifter made a clicking sound. I checked the brake fluid and it is fine. I haven't seen any of the lights come back on since. My husband seems to think it's a vacuum leak. Please let me know what you think.

a vacuum leak is an engine problem. do the rpms go down when you put your foot on the brake?

your stop/tail light warning is probably caused by a bad bulb.

^^^ People with sigs like that should be banned.

I'd assume that the Z has an automatic tranny? It doesn't sound like a vacuum leak, but there might be multiple issues.

If the brakes haven't been recently checked, now might be a good time. The ticking sound might be a wear indicator on the pads. You might get a ticking or grinding sound when the pads get thin.

As far as the stop/tail warning light goes, check to see if all of the bulbs illuminate.

Since it's an automatic, the clicking u hear when u depress the brake would be the shift lock. It allows u to place the trans into a gear other than park. If you'll notice, if u try to just push the button and remove it from park it won't work. U'll need to have the brake and the button engaged.
