Parking brakes
Parking brakes
Hi Guys,
The parking brakes on my '90 300ZX are completely gone. I think someone drove it with the brake on and glazed them. I know they are small shoes like the old style drum brakes used to be.
I have a factory CD manual, but I know sometimes I can get ideas on making the job go easier. Has anyone got any tips on doing the job?
The parts are $95.00 at Nissan... And all I want to do is get this thing through inspection, I wondered... if there's anything left of the pads, could I scuff the drums and the pads with sandpaper and make them work just enough to get through inspection?
Has anyone ever tried this? I have done this with clutches and flywheels before and got results.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you pulled the rotors and checked? I find it hard to believe that all of the pad material is gone........ but possible I guess. I would just try adjusting them first. The procedure is in the fsm.
Thanks for your reply. I haven't pulled the rotors yet. I have tried adjusting the brake and it did not help. I assume someone drove with the parking brake on and glazed the pads.
I'm gonna pull them and see what's left of them. I think I can get by if there's anything left on the pads by scuffing the pads and drum.
Thanks,
Johann
