Would like to do a sound system upgrade

I'm not a terribly crazy music person but I would like to have a CD player and iPod capability (AUX in) installed alongside the factory Bose. What choices do I have? Did these cars ever come with a CD player? Otherwise, if I go aftermarket (which I really don't want to do) what is available that'll down the radio antennae when anything other than the radio is playing. Thanks fellas.

i have an Alpine headunit that i can control my iPod from. and it was easy to just run the cable to the "glovebox", which is JUST big enough to fit said iPod. you will need the proper adapter to keep the Bose (crap) speakers, as they are individually amplified.

fact is. best off replacing the speakers and head unit all together. its VERY VERY EASY and wont be that expensive.

You want to make one of these...

P.S. I stopped using the CD Player after I got my iPod in the car, than I decided that the storage box was more useful than the CD PLayer

Thanks Barry, that's pretty neat. I also have come to the conclusion that the storage box has more value than a CD player, given the iPod. Thanks again.

OK, I bought a Sony head unit with front iPod AUX and rear iPod semi-permanent connection. The unit is from Crutchfield and came with a factory AMP interface unit and a factory antennae interface unit. I think this will be a reasonable replacement for the factory Bose. I preferred the Sony design to the Alpine's, and besides, I couldn't find a comparative Alpine unit with front AUX. Someone, please tell me I haven't made a bad mistake.

That depends on how much you bought it for.

other than buying sony automotive sound parts, no, no mistake. lol, sony is on the very low end of automotive sound systme distributors, though everything else they make is amazing i dont know how they do so poorly. eclipse or kenwood is my first choices. but its fine. each speaker is individually amp'ed though is it not? so i dont think you can use the stock speakers.... i think... i forget if thats how it works or if you just bypass the factory amps.......

The little gizmo that comes with the unit allows the unit to work in harmoney with the factory amp. So, theoretically this whole thing should be worry free.

BTW, I never even thought of my dad's favorite, Kenwood. Oh well!!!

your only big mistake is having an iGay. creative is where its at. i love my Zen. and i would say trash the bose. all new speakers, small external amp, and the head unit you got sounds good. about a 300-400 watt amp and speakers with about 75RMS capasity will be right nice. that's what i've got, and it's perfect.i have found that the amps in head units don't push the upgraded speakers too well. you need head room, which is pretty much extra power that makes your over all sound quality a lot better. my set up was almost free.

S and D are very close on the keyboard - it's supposed to read "System." BTW, the system was installed over the weekend and it sounds very good. I like the small remote - very handy with the iPod. The only problem I have is that faceplate trim piece that came with the Sony system doesn't fit the OEM dash trim piece - I plan to file down the opening on the dash piece to make it fit.

So, is there any way to edit the main (display) title of a post? I can edit the title on the first post but can't do a thing about the displayed title - moderator, please change dydtem to system, thanks.
