I am trying to replace my factory shift **** with a new factory shift **** and i cannot seem to get the stock one off. I have tried twisting it off and it doesn't budge. Can someone please aid me in my shift **** dilemma

Well, if it has never been taken off before, then it is sealed on there with some lock tight stuff. You need to break it loose. Now I never had to do it because mine just came right off, but I heard that you can wrap a towel (wet i think) in the proper direction and pull on the end of the towel and it should twist off. Good luck!
If that does not work, check TT.net for a write-up on it. I think i saw one there, but I might be imagining things.

If you don't mind destroying it, take a pipe wrench to it.
I tried everyones ideas and they still dont work..and i dont really want to wreck it..does anyone know if there is some kinda of screw to undo that is under the boot or something cuz i cant get it off for the life of me!!!

lol no, it's only held on there with locktite lol.if you don't wanna destroy it, let's combine a few suggestions. Wrap the **** with a towel/s and then use a large pipe wrench/locking pliers. Keep going until it gives. One way or the other, it'll come off.
hmmm yes but when I put the wet towel on it and put the wrence to it..it just started tearing at the leather on the ****..so i dont know what to do..i guess i will jsut deal with it cuz I've turned it about 1/4 of a turn and now it won't turn back hehe well i guess i will keep trying and trying till it comes off thanks for all the advice rizzspeed, tsefreeflow, and shameless.

Use a vise grips instead of a pipe wrench works better. As for the wet towel, I used a dry one not sure if that makes the difference but it worked for me. But a vise grips is a much better tool to use.

btw, did you ever get that switched??
Once I started turning the old one, even with a towel and a pair of vice grips, the leather/rubber came loose of the metal portion of the ****.
At that point, I had to perform emergency surgery on the **** to get it off.
it's really easy once you cut the leather and rubber away, though!

Are you positive you're trying as hard as you can? If the **** is in good shape you can sell it for a good $40, so try hard not to ruin it. No matter how hard you twist on that thing (counterclockwise), you can't break the shifter, so go all out!
