just wondering if anyone knows the thread dimensions and pitch on the stock '79 280zx shift ****/stick

m8 (8mm) diameter
1.25mm thread pitch

Yup - which is why you can cut two or more inches off your shifter and weld a M8 1.25 bolt on the top....
