Interior Reupholstering

Morning all, Well its about that time of year again (the one with no Z ) and time to do some work to her. I bought an Import Extreme inter ior kit a while ago and never got around to installing it. Question is : Does the Suede part of the door skin seperate from the actual door skin inorder to wrap the new material around it?? The rest of the stuff is self explanatoery. I haven ever had to take my doors off (thank goodness) and I hear they are hard to put back on, so the least amount of door skin pulls is better for me Thanks guys!

It's been a while since I had my doors apart, but if I recall correctly, yes, the suede portion separates from the rest of the door via metal tabs that go through holes and get bent flat to hold the 2 parts together.

It's not hard at all to put the doors back on, just make sure all the fasteners are lined up properly before pounding it flush, or you're going to damage the fasteners and there'll be a gap between the panel and the door itself (I actually just had to fix that the other day because I missed one).

I had a lot of problems with the passenger door, relating to the metal clips near the top of the window, there is a specific way to "slide" that side back on and then once that goes on the rest pop in place, but I found it not the just simple put back on, but might be easier after a few times of doing it.

Thanks guys. I am going to try and tackle this job this coming weekend. (Never done upholstery before) Need to find a place that has the 3M Adhesive though. (Damn Germany is inconvenient at times)

Also, when I am doing this, do I leave the Suede on or tear it all off??? I know on the door I tear it off. But what about the rest?

Hey, not sure if you got there yet, but the doors are one piece with a channel that runs where the pleather and suede/tweed meet.

Looks good so far!

Yeah I just started the doors. They suck!! I dont know what kind of glue they used 14 years ago, but whatever it is, I want some, jeez. Powerful stuff, lol. Heat gun only makes it stickier! I have the entire center console done now and working on the drivers side stuff. More pics to come!

I've noticed you posted a close to finish product on 300zxclub.com. Did you refinish your seats as well? Do you have any suggestions or links for doing the seats?

Seat suggestions- Drink lots of water, get hogrings pliers and pray before starting. They are more physically demanding than anything. Trying to get it all tight is tough. Here are the pics you were talking about.

That's looking really great. Are you gonna leave it with 3 different colors though?

The armsrests match the seat centers perfectly. With the dooor closed, it doesnt look that bad.
