How much for a GOOD Paint Job?
Shes starting to show the annoying swirls a bit more than I like so im thinking its time for a new paint job. Its got a few dings and what not that I want go get rid of. I hear of a place in Alexandria, VA called NT Auto Body (I think) that seems to do good work, any comments?

yeah....if its just swirls i would first try a bunch of differnet rubbing compounds and then wax it good, or take it to get detailed, sometimes swirls can simply be coaxed out and you may not need a paint job at all.

When I was at Ultimate Z, we charged $3000-$4000 for most paint jobs... pearls and metalflakes were a little more.
And Eric is right, most swirrels are NOT paint problems, they're clearcoat problems. A good body shop can almost definately buff those out; might be $80-$200.

dude...i said use rubbing compounds...thats the same as buffing...and thats what detailers will do...just more profesionaly and if they f your paint up they have to fix it...where if you F it up which is VERY easy with a power buffer, you screw yourself......for once, finally for once, i have an INCREDIBLE thought...and i loose credit.....im gonna go emo now...lol....jk jk.....zlover gave it to me...but i guess im invisable to chico....

Receiving acknoledgement for helping someone isn't what the Z community is about; it's selfless.
I don't help people to hear people say thank you (in fact, I couldn't give less of a damn if they're thankful)... I help people because I feel it is my duty as someone who knows what he's talking about to help people, and also to help the Z cars.
So while chicopriest may not thank you, the Z would if it were able to.

Oy...you kids somedays.....
Surface scratces and swirls can be removed by hand if you have the free time and desire....if you own a Z you should have both already.
I would highly recommend the following process if you just have surface scratches in your clearcoat:
Wash and dry completely, use a clay bar (a kit is availible at your local Auto Zone or what have you), wash and dry again, use a very VERY mild abbrasive polishing compound with or without an electric buffer (one saves time....wanna guess which one?), I recommend cloth diapers for a final rub down to get the last bit of caked on polish off your car and finish up with this stuff called Liquid Ebony. It's a super fine polish that can be bought at most paint houses. Then apply a coat or 4 of your favorite wax.
Of course if your scratches go down to the paint you're going to want to get the clear coat redone, usually cheaper than a full blown paint job. Scratches down to primer or metal are a no brainer.
Of course you could always take a 10 penny nail and put some chips in your hood, fenders and bumpers, crack your windshield in a couple of places and get the front end of your car fixed by your insurance company claiming gravel damage.....but you didnt hear that from me

$7k for just paint is absolutely rediculous. The $3k-$4k at Ultimate Z included all prep work.

Here's a good timeline:
Day 1 - Increase coverage, lower deductables to $0.00
Day 31 - Make windshield unrepairable, fabricate lie about how dents are related to windshield damage.
Day 33 - Call insurance company and report "accident" involving gravel truck/flying debris / unmarked utility truck.
Day 35 - Take car to GOOD body shop.
Day 40 - Get car back, marvle at awesoem new paint and glass.
Day 60 - Call insurance complany back and raise deductables to former levels claiming "more expensive than you thought".
Repeat every couple of years or as needed
