My project for today is to paint the cam gear covers, air rail, and the part on top of the plenum, and install new spark plugs. Is there anything else I should paint?

my main problem is getting the cam gear covers off. what are some tips/hints on getting it off?

i really wish i still had my electric fan...

 

You mean the intake valve covers? Those are the black metal blocks that you see between the intake runners of the plenum. If you want to remove them, then you have to remove the plenum. Or, are you talking about the plastic upper timing belt covers which cover the cam sprockets? If so, then pull up the 60k service 'How to' on tt.net. That tells you what you need to do to remove it.

That's a good question. Those pieces are plastic, so you need to get the right paint. I decided not to do it because I think it will flake off.

 

i got high temp professional paint-----
ill get the brand later today

my dad has used it on the calipers before and it has stayed on

 

oh...by the way....some f&^$#$ decided to back up into my car and leave
now i have a nice crack on my WW front bumper from the top of it...almost to the nose piece...to where the middle dam starts

lol, i would be very pissed. let me know if theres a brand-name you use, theres some parts id like to get painted in my engine bay as well.

I just useds 500 degree engine enamel I got at the local autopart store. Works superb on calipers as well :dancing: gettin' hyphy!

 

Wind kind of prep work did you do on that? Sanding, primer, etc.?

 

I know rustoleam makes some new plastic paint. Its designed to flex with the plastic surface rather than crack and flake off. I dunno how much haet it can withstand though. You might want to consider powder coating, I dunno how much it would cost. But I would be worth it to do it once and not worry about it.

Yeah guess I should have been more specific...didnt he say he had some metal parts though. Powder coat metal only. My mistake. Avalon racing use to make Carbon fibre timing covers, but i dont know if they still do.

 

My only prep was a good ole' coat of paint thinner to remove any grease or grime...Don't have any new pics of my freshly painted cover, but you can check out my work on my old one.. www.cardomain.com/id/shibbyjdm DO NOT I repeat DO NOT use it on the metal part where it says "V6 3000 Twin-Cam 24 Valve" it will smear the lettering so you can't read it.

 

yea thats the only prep work i did on mine
i am still planning on posting pics
ill probably end up changing the color in the future because it doesnt really match my intake, or the ud pulleys i will get
i just taped over the letters so that the "nissan" still matches my body paint, and the other stuff is still silver

 

yahh I painted the thing thing that says, "NISSAN V6-3000 24 Valve" bloo. as for my cam gear covers this is what I wanna do.

I honestly think It's more agrasive looking.

 

That is nice. I'm considering leaving my timing belt cover off.

What are the down sides of that, besides dirt being able to get in there?

 

Dirt ....... and the odd chance that something would get in there and knock or break the belt off while you're accelerating to 7000 rpm. Or...... "where the hell'd that damn screw go ?????? I know i just set it there a minute ago !!!!!!! hmmmmm
