I'm looking to get a new tranny for my 85 z31. im looking for a 6-speed, and having the hardest time finding anybody that makes one. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!!! also, would there be a size variance, and if so would it get in the way of my headers??

 

i do not think that there are any 6 speeds made specifically for the z31.
can't be sure though.
try the search at z31.com.

as a side note, you raced my little brother a while back (silver/grey 280zx, lives at the highlands apt)
is it true that you had a jdm turbo motor blow up on you?

If you can dream it, it can be done. Don't expect it to be easy though. If you can find a six speed with a bolt on bell housing, you can have a bell housing fabricated to fit the six speed to your engine. It'll be a lot bigger though. You're probably looking at relocating your shifter location and a custom driveshaft.

If you got an imagination and a fat back account, you can get it done.

Okay.... I've got drivetrain problems myself. But I found out that the Z31's use Borg Warner T5's ... I'm not a very large authority on transmission/drivetrain. But I'm sure Borg Warner makes a 6 speed that could bolt up to your bellhousing, not sure about the dimensions though. I'm pretty sure you could mount a 6 speed up if you remounted the trans mounts and modified your driveshaft, probably take some ECU tuning, but you could do it if you were dedicated enough.
