Hi, i just got a Z datsun 84 in great cosmetic shape and good sounding engine (exept for rought idle tho i think is a big *** vacum leak someplace).

The real problem is that when i downshift into second gear i hear like a friccion noise coming from the trany.
the noise is hard to describe, sounds like a bad bearing but it only happens when i downshift to 2nd and let the engine do the breaking.

any ideas ?

The rest of the car is awsom. i ll post some pics.

I had a similar problem to what you're describing in my '85 N/A. It was a bearing. The bearing basically exploded in the tranny. Somehow it didn't get into any of the gears though. Dad and I rebuilt the tranny after that. If you were to drain the transmission, you'll probably find some copper in the oil; which is of course a bad sign.

OUCH !!! was it a front bearing or the rear ones ? tho it only happens in second gear and ONLY when i downshift. i can put 2nd and give it gas and nothing happens.
