weird noise
weird noise
Okay lets see if anyone knows this one. So im driving my z and im noticing like a thump noise coming from the rear but it only happens at low speeds when getting past a certain speed then the nosie goes away. It only happens when im driving slow. Second question I was thinking that it could be coming from the rear differential so I changed the diff oil in the rear. Now does anyone know if the rear axel itself needs grease or any other type of lubercation like where the axel meets the rear rotors and rear differential.
Could also be u-joints or hub bearings... Is it like a dull click that is dependant on the speed (like a card between the spokes of a ten speed bike would sound if you had ear muffs on kinda thing?) ? If so... let me know when you find it because mine's been doing that for over a year!

No, seriously though. I don't have a clue what that sound is on my car. I'm just wondering if he has the same sound. I would love to know what it is...

A 'thud' I would guess is the whole differential and suspension moving and hitting the underside of the car. Replace the crossmember insulator bushings and rear diff bushing.
A 'tick' is probably one or both brake pads clicking inside the caliper. (see common 280zx problems)
thats just my guess though

my buddies did the same thing if im thinking right about what it sounds like, happened to be one of his rear disc break hubs, the floating type was loose, the dumbass just didnt tighten his lugs with the wheel off the ground.
(no offense to people who have done the same thing, i have done my share of retarded things...

lol guys yah it sounds like a card between the spokes of a bicycle wheel but the noise goes away when at higher speeds. Ive replaced the suspension to the rear but not the front. hmmm Ill really have to look into it. Like i dont mind the sound shes gonna be 23 years old so im not going to have everything perfect. But I hope its nothing that its gonna break along the way
My Noise Only Happens In Corners, But Same Thing, I Found It To Be The Constuction Of The Rear Brakes, Its Hard To Stop, It Used To Do It All The Time, You Just Need A New Hardware Kit And That Red Goo You Put On The Back Of The Pads
My first thought, was the brakes... Especially with the slotted rotors on there... but that's not it. The frequency of the "Dull Clicks" is too fast at low speeds to be the brakes. It has to be from a relatively small rotating part. Personally, I think my diff is about to go bye bye. It only has 250K on it!
