I'm sure you guys are sick of me and my timing belt, but i still need some help ...
ok here it goes

1. I got the timing belt to go on and it's on the marks
2. before I put new belt on ... the cams snapped a 1/4 turn each a couple times in both directions by accident from me trying to get cam sprockets off for oil seal change ... gave up too tight
3. after every 1/4 snap I put back to mark
4. I also moved the crank sprocket a smidge trying to get some slack for timing belt install and taking crank bolt out after trying to get timing marks aligned before TB removal
5. in the middle of all this I did an oil change since I have limited time to work on car, i was trying to be productive (yes i'm an idiot ... no oil back to engine)
6. at the moment the timing belt is on and it's on the marks ... the tensioner is really tight against belt, and the spring is barley touching the stud and is very loose, and the only tension is from the tightened down nut
7. how can i get out of this, what are my options
8. would it help if I open up valve covers to make sure valves are not hitting heads
9. Am I screwed or Am I screwed?

Did you ever get this car put back together? Basically if your camshafts move but are put back you'll be fine. There was a whole discussion that I read once on 300ZXClub.com that talked about doing the timing belt. It came to the conclusion that as long as everything is lined up with the markrs you should be fine.

Don't worry about the spring,most people just toss them anyways.
The nut holds it fine.
As for you encountering resistance,make sure the car is in neutral and then
try to turn the crank.

The spring is more of a hazard to your motor than anything. Toss it like 99% of the people who have done thier own timing belt job. (myself included)

thanks for responding guys, luckily this is not my daily driver or I would I've never done such a 1st time big job in the first place, I've learned so much, and I could probably do the job in a single day now that I know all the ins and outs ... why is the spring dangerous?, what is it's purpose?, why is it there?

More than likely because the spring can come loose. Get caught in something behind that cover, and say it causes your belt to jump a tooth. That'll be no good. I've already seen this happen, and it bent up my alternator's metal fan blade. I got lucky. This was a socket too.
