Removing california emissions controls

Hey guys...

I bought my 86 300z the other day. It is freakishly slow. I know its only 160 horses on the n/a versions but I'm embarrased. My old saturn seemed faster and that is just not acceptable.

The car is from california and I'm in kentucky... ask california has several retarded emissions laws that slow cars down I want to remove them.

What type of controls can I remove to give me some more umph. Kentucky doesn't require a smog detector so it doesn't matter to me.

What can be done?

there actually isn't any real power robbing differences between the CA and Federal emissions Z31s.

The only power robbing emissions devices on the car are the cat and the ECU. All the other little things dont really affect performance. The cat restricst exhaust flow and the ECU is far from running the engine at the peak of its potential.

Get a new cap & rotor, plugs, wires, and change the oil. Also check your timing.

I got my 87 Z from california, and at first it seemed a bit slower than my 85. But I did a bunch of the basic tune-up stuff and it pepped right up. a bit later I found that my timing was retarded 6 degrees.
It was much more fun after the tune-up
