Question about a timing belt kit

I'm looking at this timing belt kit on Ebay, I was wondering what you guys thought about the brand of parts used and if any of you would use this kit over spending $260 on the OEM kit?

I would go for OEM. This is a critical part of the engine and if it breaks, it will destroy the engine. So if were me, I'd go for the OEM kit from Courtesy Nissan and be sure of the fitment and quality.

This is the kit I installed:

Amazon.com: Gates TCKWP104 Timing Belt Component Kit with Water Pump: Automotive Amazon.com: Gates TCKWP104 Timing Belt Component Kit with Water Pump: Automotive

Every mechanic I've talked has told me Gates Rubber timing belts are as good as OEM belts since they are the OEM supplier for many manufacturers. This kit also is cheaper than the Ebay alternative. Otherwise, I too would recommend an OEM timing belt.

the stuff you don't get in that kit is the tin cover for the crankshaft seal. You will probably destroy that removing it to replace the seal. then you have to decide if not having it is detrimental. the kit from courtesy nissan has all that stuff. Just did mine about six months ago so fairly fresh in my mind. Also reports of stud for the tensioner breaking suggest replacing that. take a look at what you get from courtesy. all belts all covers all seals. $267. Ebay in my mind is taking a chance on flyby night Inc. I made the mistake of buying parts piecemeal to save a few bucks and it wan't much of a saving. I would much rather have gotten the complete kit from Courtesy. Word to the wise.

I've seen the Courtesy Nissan kit, I guess I'll just save up for it, I wish the tensioner and the water pump weren't so expensive haha

thanks for your opinions guys

Good call, the Courtesy Nissan Kit is the best, the guys are correct, these are critical parts and nobody makes parts like Nissan, they are a cut above everyone else, and will last ! I got the full kit from them, funny thing I will be installing it very soon, totaled the car right after I got the Kit, pulled the engine yesterday, just got it on my engine stand, so I will be tearing her down soon. I had to get some longer bolts to get it to fit on my stand, the stock transmission bolts were about an inch to short for my stand.

I've never done a timing belt, but I'm not afraid to tear into it....how bad a job is it for these cars, and are there any good tutorials on the job?
