Hey all,
I joined this site right around the year 2000, maybe earlier. I can't recall. I didn't even remember my user name, lol! Luckily, my email was in the database so, I'm back! At least, temporarily. .
Back in "the day" I built a 1983 turbo. It was such a fun car to drive and doing the build was an enjoyable experience. That car is long gone. Unfortunately, I was forced to practically give it away after my divorce in 2010. She was sending it to the scrapyard!
Now, I'm considering another build. This time I'm thinking about a Z31, as prices for them haven't quite skyrocketed like 280 and earlier models..
Here are some questions I have before I even go shopping for the car:
First, is it even worth building a 1gen 300zx turbo? Are the motors as bulletproof as the 280? I ran 20+ pounds of boost in my '83 with absolutely zero issues. I drove it daily. Can i expect the same performance and reliability from the 300? What about parts? Is there a good supply of aftermarket parts available? It seems like there is, but i haven't done a bunch of research. This is my research, lol!! I just don't want to end up with a car that is severely limited like my 2gen Acura. Theres NOTHING available for that car..
I'm old now. I don't feel like spending hours perusing the forums just to see if my questions have already been asked. I'll try not to ask typical redundant questions as those answers are usually quite easy to find. This site was extremely helpful 20-some-odd years ago. I'm sure the membership has changed quite dramatically. Hopefully it's still as friendly and supportive as it was back then.
I'm going to try and post a couple pics of my old 280, just so y'all can see I'm not full of sh*t.
Thanks y'all! It's good to be back (I hope!)!
Well my old username finally came to me. It was HellzBellz83t. The email associated with it has been long deactivated. It's funny... I set up a secret email and had parts shipped to a buddy's house when I was building that '83. My wife at the time was 100% against me spending any money on that car, lol!
I guess the site just assigned this username to me? I thought that was weird because I sure don't remember choosing this username. Anyway, I doubt there are many around who were here back then. They wouldn't be in the Z31 forum anyway.
Oh man I vaguely remember that car and the name also sounds familiar! Most of the folks moved onto other social media platforms. Forums are archaic. You might have better luck joining a z31 facebook group and inquiring. With modern tuning and availability of standalone ECU, the VG is a stout platform for sure!

Damn... I didn't even think of Facebook. Thanks! This site was so helpful back in the day so it's the first place I thought of to go.
I miss that old 280... it was definitely a budget build and surprised the hell out of a lot of unsuspecting "fast and furious" types. I was in the middle of finally upgrading the fuel system to correct the lean-out issue at WOT when the divorce started. I couldn't drive the car and had nowhere to store it or work on it. Such a shame...
Anyway, thanks for the response! I'll check out Facebook.
