NT/turbo motors
NT/turbo motors
As I posted here a while back my dad and I purchased an '85 Z31 NT auto with a rough body. Well my dad may have came across another car we're going to look at tommorrow. It's supposedly an '86 turbo 5-speed car with a good body. The only problem is the motor is blown. I was just wondering what are the differences in the two motors? We're thinking about getting the turbo and putting the good NT motor in it with the turbo and everything else. I'm assuming the NT probably has a little higher compression ratio. Is it other wise the same? Will it bolt up fine in place of the other motor? Thanks.
Here is a link to some good information on the engine in the Z31.

Okay. I just got back. It's in a lot better shape than ours. It's turbo, but it's missing the turbo. He said that he had the motor checked out and the bottom end is fine. Supposedly the lifters are the problem. I'm guessing he was revving it high and the lifters floated. I'll check those sites out. Hopefully the top ends will switch over. The guy wants $400 for it. Good deal?

if yer gonna take the thing apart--why dont you rebuild the turbo motor, buy for 300-400$ a turbo to replace the missing one and have fun..........mixing turbo and nonturbo stuff does not always get you where you wanna go......and if you rebuild the turbo motor, the result should last you another 250k miles, anyway----and the initial 600$ IF the body really is good-might be slightly high. but you will havea good car in the long run that will get you a fair return price at sale.....oh--and i removed the aftermarket airfilter from my 84 turbo and now get much better performance......stay stock--less pricey and more responsive.......
