Talking Engine swap

I want to do a 350z engine swap on my 86 300z, would this be a good thing or should I not even think about it

Why?

The VQ35 liter motor is significantly larger than the VG30. It'll be very difficulttoget it to fit. You would need to do some serious fabrication and engine compartment modifications. It would be easier and less expensive to swap in a Z31 turbo motor and mod the crap out of it.

No you can go turbo or not. There are a few S/C'd Z31s but that gets pricy plus an S/C'd VG30E wont put out as much as a VG30ET could. You could however swap the necessary parts off a VG30ET for the turbo set-up onto your VG30E short block.

hi 91 whats up?i havent been on for a while.
racer69 i think that a z31 sbc is a grat convertion. i would know i have one.and aginst a z31t sbc walks on it. and it was vary expensive.there are only a hand full of z31 sbc out there. i would think that if you want v8 power i would look into the titan's v8. when you look at it, it has some simalrities with the lt1 the maifold looks the same. i think this would be my next convertion if i were to do one. and yes there is a supercharger posiability for your z31 vortec makes a simpel setup, but some fabercation would be involved.its somthing to think about.

It would really come down to how much you want to spend and how mechanically inclined you are.

The stock VG30ET is MUCH more reliable then an after market super charger kit, also the Z31 is known to have very minimal turbo lag being a very potent and torquey engine, and VERY cheaply you could achieve your 260-300HP with the VG30ET(compared to a v8 swap or supercharger). Why not keep it simple?

Because with a SBC you get 260-300hp from a nearly stock engine and TORQUE.

Hey my friend has an aluminum wing for sale. You sound interested.

Yea those vg30et's have a powerband like a honda.... no torque at all. What a POS engine.

Your retarted...just flat retarted...Go over to Z31.com and tell them that.

Talk to Jason, Ken, 1sickZ, JohnZboy...All in the 450-550 Horse power range.

I dont know that much about engines, but i know that statement is pure ignorance.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I think he was being sarcastic...at least I hope so.

BTW 00Evan the VG30ET will generate more torque then horse power 90% of the time, so the SC idea is still a ****ing waste of money.

you're trying to tell me the vg30 is gonna generate more torque than a small block v8?

You guys should really take some automotive classes or something..

No not at all. I was referring to the supercharged VG Idea.

Sorry for the confusion.

There's no substitute for displacement. Anyone ever put a supercharged sbc in a Z? That'd be sweet.

Cool

Hey Guys,
Couldn't help but get in your discussion. All of what you are saying is true: the turbo conversion is the way to go as it will maximize the hp potential of the vg30. I will say, however, that 250hp is not inconceivable for the n/a vg30. Good cams, headers, improved exhaust system, throttle body upgrade, modified intake plenum, port matching, etc. can do a decent job with the n/a motor. Although this will improve the n/a motor overall, I am still wondering how in the hell heckimianracing.com got 300hp out of an an n/a motor. You have to check this out!
