Emissions Information for the Catalytic Converter
Emissions Information for the Catalytic Converter
I have an 86' z31.
I have to replace my catalytic converter and somehow there is no sticker anymore for the family and test group numbers. Shops in California are saying they need that info to make sure they get the right one. I'm not sure why there's a change, but one guy said it happened during the pandemic and it's now required. One shop said they could figure it out with the part number from Nissan, which I did locate. I called Nissan and they don't know and said their database for those don't go back far enough.
Just curious if there's another way to find out or if anyone else has an 86 with that info, or if you can even do that because they have more per year that might not match up. I'd assume they'd likely be the same or work though in the same year.
Any thoughts?

Both the 1986 N.A. and the 1986 turbo model (0985-0387) use Nissan catalytic converter part no. 20802-V8025 and 20802-v8027 as an alternate part number.
This is where the part no. is shown:

There are many different identification labels on a z31. It looks like the one you need to refer to is the emissions label located on the front of the car between the headlamps. Click this to see it:

Thank you, but I had already checked that spot after seeing that in the manual, and I don't see any sticker there. The first link didn't work.
I think the part number you mentioned is the same one as I got from Nissan, but I'll have to check later. I don't know much about converters, so I'm not sure how to purchase the correct one from the part number if they're discontinued from Nissan. I guess that gives aftermarket matches and hopefully pairs with the family and test group correctly I would assume.
