Distributor Cap

The contact points in my distributor cap like to corrode somewhat quickly (corrosion is built up badly within 6-8 months). I was just wondering if anyone knows where I can find one with contact points made with non corrosive metal. I have searched around on the internet and haven't found one for an 84 z na yet. It would be nice to find an ignition rotor with the same qualities.

Thank you for your knowledge and patience.

Genuine Nissan ignition parts are your best bet. Aftermarket crap is just too sloppy with their tolerances. Aftermarket will work, but, the engine will many times have a little mis-fire at idle, or worse, a mis-fire when you're hammering on it.

That little "corrosion" you mentioned isn't really that. Every time an arc is exchanged between two contacts there is a spot of the metals that gets cooked and a tiny amount becomes molten. Do this 3,000+ times per minute and over even a short period of time, you will see the effects as the contact points begin to break down.

The only cure is regular maintenance. In this case every few years will do.

honestly the afternarket caps and rotors are fine, just make sure you get specific z31 rotors though, as a couple of the ones i have gotten for a vg30 maxima where different. and would cause a heavy missfire.

The entire reason for replacing the cap was because the engine was misfiring, but I found out today that it was the spark plugs. So I replaced them, and know it runs great.

Thanks again for the info.
