Well, I too have an '86 zx, and my clutch is failing me... Unlike you I have more problems with my car than you, and I am N/A'd. I went to AdvanceAutoParts, and they cary and OEM replacement for $132.00, two day delivery. I haven't had the cash to chunk out for it, though I neeed to badly, my clutch burns and smokes after a 5-10 minute drive, due to 287k miles and... excessively riding the clutch (shame on me, guess I got what I desserved, eh?). Anywho, it's no hastle as long as you've installed a clutch, but if you're a Novice, just go out and buy a repair manual, I have one for just about ever 280 and 280zx around, but only one that has my car listed in it, not much for decent diagrams but it's helpfull from time to time none the less. I wish you the best of luck, if there's anything else you might question, let me know and I'll see what I can help with.

I've changed my clutch twice now. Both upgrades. First was Centerforce I clutch. Liked it & had no issueswith it after 25,000 miles. Running more boost and (obviously) power so I upgraded to RPS Street Max clutch. Both a bit pricey in the $300+ range. If your car is stock then an OEM clutch is fine. Make sure you replace the throwout bearing at the same time. Check the condition of the flywheel. If it is grooved it will chew up your new clutch if you don't have it re-surfaced. While you're at it you might as well upgrade your tranny fluid as you have to drain it anyway.
