A/C Control unit- HELP

I need a second or third opinion of what to do. Bought a 1985 non turbo, knowing the A/C did not work. I have been told that it does get cold but when you turn the air on the blower does not kick on. I replaced the blower hoping it would be that simple. I took it to the shop to have them see what is wrong with it. First they said it was the blower resistor, and they had a second shop look at it and determine that the resistor is fine that that the control unit is bad. They say it would be $750 for them to order a control unit and install. Does this sound reasonable and or correct? Is there somewhere someone might know about that may have a used one? I have the Haynes book and does not look hard to replace. The person we bought the car from said it was in a lot better shape than the actually was. My wife wants to sell the car off so any economical solutions to get the A/C and heater working would be greatly appreciated.

I have checked all the fuses. Is there a way other than taking to the dealer to determine if the relays are good. I will have to check the lights when I get the car back. Not sure if related or not but the radio does not seem to be getting any power as well.

if you have a voltmeter thats one way to check, if not go get some relays from the parts store or junkyard..

i also have a working manual climate control unit if you want it..

The shop told me today that when they passed the control unit and wired directly that everything powered as it should be. That it is where the the power quit. How much would you asking for the unit and shipping?
