BOV staying open?

I have just installed a new Turbo, Wastegate, and BOV. The BOV is a XS Power H/RFL, I installed all of the washers and put a restrictive hose barb in line with the vacuum line. It still stays open while idling and fluctuates when the throttle is burped. Any suggestions?

Sometimes the brass piston needs to be taken out and sprayed down with WD-40 to lube the cylinder walls. The RFL requires more end user maintenance than most other bovs. I'm using a knock off RFL (which is why in my vids no one believes me it's RFL b/c it sounds different), and I had to take out the rubber grommet in the cylinder to get mine to work right without getting stuck open. 16 psi and I had no problems with it getting stuck or leaking.

My BOV is not getting stuck it is fluctuating at idle. With the engine turned off you can barely open the piston, but while running the vacuum is SO great that it stays cracked causing an erratic idle. I am machining an longer spacer to help the spring keep it closed. The problem I have is the old BOV I had was a cheap EBay special and it worked with no problems on a larger displacement engine with a higher compression ratio. I wonder if they sell a stronger spring?

ya that is weird. You did the right thing to adjust it. I guess try more pressure.

I had the same issue with a non-adjustable BOV. It was cheap though.
I then bought a Greddy knockoff from eBay for $50. It worked perfect. Stayed closed, opened when it should.

I think NismoPick has the same BOV as you. Maybe he'll chime in

I tried the spring spacer I made at lunch and it works good now. I do think I'll see if I can get a heavier spring for it.

Indeed I have the same one... I installed one washer / spacer & it works great. The only time it gave me probs is when the vac line split and then it wouldn't open the BOV all the way.

Do you have a dedicated vac line to it direct from the intake mani?

Yes I do. The BOV is plumed in right behind the TB.

Do you have a boost gauge hooked up? What's the vacuum level max out at?

That's really good vaccum. Mine was at 19-20 and I've heard other engines have less at idle.

This is a fresh rebuild Got some custom copper head gaskets, little port work, and a whole lotta LOVE!
