z31 rebuilt engine runs rough, need help!

Hi everyone!
So this is situation I'm in. I rebuilt 87 vg30e, deleted the egr system, and carbon canister.
Dropped the engine in. Ran all new vacuum lines.
Here is the problem I'm having.
No/low power from the engine, hesitation on acceleration. Backfire on compression roll.not sure about ignition timing. Having troubles with it. Any help will be great!

post this in the z31 forum you will get better answers. Get your battery load tested. Be sure you have clean, tight corrosion free terminals on both ends of your battery cables. Be sure the ground (negative) cable goes to a bolt into the frame before going to the starter. grounding through the starter is not a reliable connection. Z's don't like low voltage. causes the electronics to act funny. it is possible to have enough amps to crank but not enough voltage to run the electronics. If you have one size fit all cheapo clamp on terminals they are a problem waiting to happen.

Clean the connectors for the maf or afm, ecu and tps. Deoxit by CAIG is probably the best connector cleaner on the market. spray with CorrosionX after cleaning and before putting together this will help prevent any further corrosion.

check your timing, popping through the intake is either a lean misfire or too much timing.

Hi everyone! So this is situation I'm in. I rebuilt 87 vg30e,deleted the egr system, and carbon canister. Dropped the engine in. Ran all new vacuum lines. battery went to the hatch. Here is the problem I'm having. No/low power from the engine, hesitation on acceleration. Misfire from exhaust on compression roll.not sure about ignition timing. Having troubles with it. Any help will be great! I'm feeling stupid, so could anyone get me steps on ignition timing adjustment on vg30e? Thank a lot!!! Also, my digi dash reads rpm fine but doesn't rise the bar for torque!..?

I had the exact same problems with my engine at first. A lot of it had to do with ignition timing and just like you, I removed almost all emissions from my car. Over time, the car's performance became a lot better.

Check your ignition timing first ! since you are having problems with it anyway
if you dont have the firing order correct it will missfire and pop on acceleration. How does it idle ? a bad M.A.F sensor can cause a lean condition which will also cause a missfire.
