Z31 Mechanic in Brooklyn NY
Hi
I have a 1987 300zx Z31 NA and experiencing a problem where the car isn't accelerating correctly. The car hates driving slowly and especially stop start traffic. When I drive from a stop I have to floor the gas pedal to get up to 25/30 mph. Engine revs very high RPMs when accelerating. The check engine light is on and the ECU is giving an MAF error code 12.
The mechanics close to me can do oil changes and parts replacements but this issue seems to have stumped them. Im wondering if anyone can recommend a mechanic in Brooklyn NY that they take their Z31s or if it would be worthwhile to take the car to a Nissan dealership?

If the ECU is kicking back the MAF code... first off, disconnect the MAF to see if it makes a difference. Or obtain a spare and swap in. Most any Nissan or Japanese repair shop should be able to do that.

Auto Trans problem ? sounds like it or also.
starts and idles good ? Checking fuel pressure ,valve timing , compression cold ,charging worth it and relatively easy
not a lot of even , Nissan techs want to tear into pre OBD 1 cars ( not quickly diag as newer obd2 )
plus new parts sources sketchy
do you have a Z car club in NYC area most have members that have dealt with common problems and know the techs to use locally
