z31 convertible questions.

I just picked up a turbo Z31 convertible but I am starting to question whether it is actually a Straman conversion or if its some back woods engineering. I will be picking up the car later this week and was wondering if anyone has seen any convertibles that were not Straman design. My main concern came from the rear shot (behind the seats) that made it look like a 2+2 given the extra space and the ashtray behind the centre console. I haven't been able to find many pictures in this area so I can't be sure. I will post a picture of what I've found on the internet, followed by a picture of mine. Even if its not a real Straman conversion, I still think it has great potential.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
-Mark

Tan color interior is the one I picked up.

Huh, interesting. This is the first time I've heard of such a thing for the z31. The lines are similar to the Trans Am convertible....

Went to go pick up the car and it was bad.... Not as described. Looked like it was left out in the weather for 5+ months, trunk was left open, no fuel pump, water in gas tank, all wheels flat, fuel lines cut in engine bay, trunk lid needed new fiberglass as it was cracked and broken, the top frame was bent and removed from the vehicle, and I wasn't even convinced that was the top for the car. I didn't buy it. It was just way too far gone for me. I was looking for a project, but not that big of one. It needed to be fully stripped down to its frame and everything repaired or replaced. The listing said the car ran and drove. Ha!

I felt bad however as I had this feeling that the car was going to be heading to the junkyard. I told the guy if it tries to go to the yard, to let me know and I will at least match the price of the salvage yard, but I couldn't justify anything more due to the extent of the damage.

All in all, it was a fun interesting trip and was bummed out I didn't come back with it, but at least now I can sink some money into my somewhat daily driver, 88 z31 NA2T for some supporting mods! It is currently tore down to its heads and getting heads machined and all new gaskets.
