Wierd groaning noise when I reverse
Hello, I have a 1988 300zx automatic (unfortunately) but sometimes when I reverse theres a groaning noise that sounds like the noise that's made when you push a desk across a wood floor. I don't know, best way to describe it. It happens whether its hot or cold outside, sloped or level path, doesn't matter which way I turn the wheel, and when I press the brake the noise gets louder for a moment then gets quieter; but still there.
Any suggestions? Thanks. It may be sticking rear brake pads, not sure.

I doubt it is the transmission, but in the rear brake system. Pull the rear wheels and inspect the brake rotors and pads. Caliper pins may be worn out and/or corroded, especially if the rubber boots are split. May also be a rusted, partially seized up emergency brake cable. You might also check the emergency brake handle inside the car. Sometimes folks think they have these fully disengaged when in fact the handle has been left engaged a ratchet notch or two.
