i know you guys disagree with my decision of cutting springs but all my freinds cut theres and i rode in them and they arent bad at all so why do think its so bad almost like its commiting a crime i think its stupid you guys dont help ,this is a forum everyone is supposed to help but there not because they dont like my idea thats ok dont help ill just figure it out on my own. oh well

 

If all your friends jumped off a bridge.... Well, you get the idea. Cutting springs is as smart as crawling under your car when it's held up by a 2x4.

Seriously. Not many people on here are going to cut their springs. If you want them to sit right, you don't cut them. If you do want them to sit right, you probably have to cut off one coil. They have to sit in their stays properly or else you'll get all sorts of rubbing issues. And if you need someone to explain common sense stuff to you, you're obviously not going to listen to anyone tell you why it's dumb.

Like I said, its almost impossible to judge how much to cut off to lower your car an inch. The reason some people will not even advise you on how to do this is called common sense. I am no mechanic, but I am a computer technician. I won't tell someone who wants to install a heatsink on their processor to use super glue if they are too lazy to buy the thermal glue, nor will I help someone crack CD keys or serials for pirated software. Everybody has a book of morales to live by. Some people feel that cutting your springs on your car is damaging (which it is) and decide not to be any part of that. Its dumb to sit here on this forum, post a question, then berate those that don't help. Its like a homeless person standing on the corner asking for change, then insulting the people that don't give them any. I have posted a lot of questions on this forum, most which don't get answered, but I understand that not everyone has an answer, or wants to answer. If you really want to lower your ride, then cut off one coil from each spring; want it lower, repeat the process till you reach your desired height. If your friends do it, then hey - that makes it OK. What kind of cars do they do it to? Ford Probes, by all mean, please. Hondas, sure, everyone has a Honda, but at least take care of your ZX. You are right, you will eventually get into an accident. Now which car you wreck depends, but the better care you take of your ZX, the longer it will last.

Dude your significant problems in the future. 1st - there is no need to lower a ZX of any year. Go to an AutoCross any Sunday morning and you will find stock set-up zx's pounding all the modified vehicles. The Z31 chassis was extremely overbuilt and flexible in camber and caster. If your gonna lower a car spend $200 and buy Eibach or whomever's products and do it right. Once you cut your stock springs your car will be impossible to align. The spring ends have to fit your spring seats or they will be moving - meaning they are changing the suspension geometry - while your driving. Your Z so it's your call, but keep it away from me on the road.
