Storage Box

I just purchased an 87 Z31 NA. It came with this plastic storage container that I believe somehow mounts in the rear of the hatchback. I found one just like it on Ebay and it's listed as a rear center storage unit or shelf but no other details. Does anyone know if this was an option sold by Nissan and how it is mounted in the back of the car?

I prefer to think of this as a 'smugglers' box moreso than one designed for storage. Wait, is that redundant?

Directly behind the front seats (2 + 0 cars) you need only lift up the carpet where it meets the driveshaft propeller shaft(?)/tunnel. And voila! Room for a couple of loaves of bread.

The storage box is actually part of the hatch floor with an handle. If that is not on your Z31, I wonder how flat the floor is without it?

Thank you both. I recently took delivery of this beautiful 25k mile Z31 2 seater that I purchased on Bringatrailer. I had not realized that the previous owner had shipped me the car with an extra storage box. There is already one installed below the carpeted cover behind the seats. My S130 has a similar storage compartment. He also shipped the car with these tonneau covers. One apparently has a vinyl piece affixed to the hard section. I found a diagram online that shows it attaches to the strut tower but my car that location in my car does not have any points into which it should attach or be screwed in so I'm wondering if these pieces are from a different year than my 87 Z31. Also, the vinyl portion is not retractable as I would have thought it should be. I have a retractable tonneau in my 85 Supra so I thought it would work similarly.

I love my S130 and yet, the Z31 has such better build quality and higher quality plastics. It handles far better and the 5 speed is an absolute blast. I'm loving the car which still even has a bit of the new car smell.

Thank you both! I had thought I had replied to this info days ago, but apparently, I did not save the reply properly.
Apparently, the previous owner included extra parts with the sale of the car. Yes, behind the front seats there is a storage compartment below a carpeted lid. This box apparently is just an extra.
This is the car I purchased. 1987 300ZX BAT

The car came with two tonneau covers, one with the vinyl portion and the other without. I do not see any mounting points for this piece in the hatchback rear for my car so I'm wondering if it was model year specific. Mine is an 87. Here is the image of the back of mine 87 Nissan 300ZX interior view rear hatch. Any suggestions? Thank you so very much !
