Stereo Power Antenna Question
Stereo Power Antenna Question
I just managed to hookup my new aftermarket CD player to my 1987 Z31 but I noticed the only thing not working correctly is the power antenna. It isn't going up and down. It must have moved at some point during the install because it was down all the way and now its up a little - so I think the motor is working?
I have the car that has the amp under the passenger side. I ran all the speaker wires Left/Right Front Rear Right/Left Speakers to the wiring harness under the passenger seat, all of the other wires are hooked to mess of factory wires in the dash. I hooked the blue aftermarket cd player antenna wire to the Green/Black wire in the Dash/Harness that has 2 wires coming out of it, I think the connector is blue. Is this the correct wire?

Maybe you need to convert the grounding of the unit from Z31 factory design to negative ground (if I remember). Best solution: Buy a CD player from Crutchfield and tell them on the phone that you are converting from orig factory design to operate the new in-dash unit.. They will include (or sell you ) a special wiring harness that converts the grounding arrangement and will wire directly to your Z31 harness. You only have to do this once. After that, any unit will work right. Plus, you get Bitchin Betty, the lights and the antenna, all working right. If you already bought the CD unit, call Crutchfield and ask for the harness kit that will convert your Z31 to accept that CD unit. Crutchfield stuff works and they are there to help you with screwups. Good guarantees too.
Sorry, forgot to post that if somebody already cut the factory harness out completely and rewired the leftover leads to other leads from the CD and amp units, you are sort of on your own. Been there, done that. I should have found another factory harness, wired it back in - and started from the beginning.
