starter solenoid problems

I recently had my starter solenoid go out on me and finally got around to replacing it yesterday. Now that its back in the car still does not start but I can hear something go click from the starter (before replacing the switch it would not do anything unless someone hit the solenoid with something as it was in the start position). Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Did you test the starter when you had it out?

I got it tested today at autozone and it passed. I saw it run and everything. I'm starting to think that it's a bad ground connection. After the reinstall I still hear it click.

Update! Still haven't had much luck with it, my father came over to have a look at it and he managed to make it turn the engine (I believe he shorted the two connections on the solenoid). It would then go on to start itself 3 more times without any help. And now it went back to the solenoid clicking again.

Any ideas could help!

Thanks

get a new starter. have your battery load tested and the charging system tested. Free most battery shops. Inspect your battery cables for loose/corroded terminals -BOTH ENDS. if you have the onesize fit all clamp terminals get rid of them and put real cables on the car. Besure you are grounded to the frame. the z31 ground wire should go first to a bolt behind the battery into the frame and then to the starter. grounding through the starter is not a reliable ground.

I took your advice and finally got a new (reconditioned) starter. threw it in the car and its all good now. I guess the old one was just so old/weak that it wouldn't turn the engine all the time.

Oh, also, I'm getting ready to do my timing belt, anyone know of a good write up?

Thanks for all the help!
