stalls when braking
stalls when braking
i have a 86 non turbo, the crank angle sensor failed and i replaced it. it runs good but when i step on the brake in drive it kills the engine. during the trouble shooting fiasco i un pluged some sensors trying to narrow the problem but no luck...can anyone help with this...i am new here to this site
thanks,it nearly dies when i put it under electrical load while idling.it will die when i put on the brake.i disconected the booster vacuum and it still dies.i checked the voltage to the battery with a meter and im getting 14.5 volts never dropping below 12.the car runs great unless i put it under load but that is only for a second if i keep the rpms up,after the initial load it runs fine
i have the idle set and i just got back from the junk yard with a iacv, put it on and nothing changed, all the brake lights are working but i have not checked to see if i am getting good ground back there....could be an issue pulling too many amps....thanks for the tip,i will look at that later. bout had it for today..dont want to take the maul to her just yet
i checked the voltage at idle in drive with the parking brake on and it is 14.5 before load, step on the brake and it drops momentarly to 12 but goes back to 14.5. i checked the codes and im getting 23 and 31. i checked all my connections on the idle circuit and as for the load...there is nothing electrical on....could i possible have a shorted wire from the alternator????

I'd start with taking your car to a local parts store (Autozone, NAPA, Kragen) and have them do a real alternator load check. If that checks out as okay, check the TPS and idle systems.
