rocker arms
not on a 300zx but on a VG motor i was wondering if i should have ANY play when i try to move the rocker arms from side to side
i was trying to figure out if theres a main or rod bearing out and no matter what i did it still made the noise even with going through the cylinders one at a time un plugging the plugs. so i popped the front valve cover off and3 of the 6 in there move side to side a bit.

any rocker arm wil move side to side if they arent adjusted right (however i dont know if the VG SOHC motor is hydraulice lifter or not) so you could check the specs on them make sure they are tight enough but if they hdraulic then they get self adjusted to the proper pressure when the engine is running in which case i have no idea how to tell if thats a bad thing or normal.

i think the lifters are non hydraulic. i'm pretty sure that that motion isn't bad enough to be the cause of whatever problem you have. i think they are meant to be self centering pretty much. i know that on my midget those beatchis would move a good bit. that engine is a tank lol.
