Replacing compass
Replacing compass
Ok I bout a turbo 1986 Nissan 300zx Turbo and it doesn't have a compass.can I replace it or have any suggestions that I could put in it(yes that is what she said).Any electronic wiz kids help me out if you got anything cool I could do Anything besides the compass. Thanks
You didn’t say whether your car has digital or analog instrumentation. 1986 turbo analog models don’t have a compass as built-in standard equipment. 1986 turbo digital models do have it.
If you have an analog model and want a compass in the dash, then you’d have to do a analog-to-digital dash swap. It’s difficult to do. Just buy yourself an aftermarket compass.

If you want to ADD a compass to your car, you will need the dash and body wiring harnesses as well as the control unit, display unit, instrument cluster, speed sensor, and fuel level sending unit. There's probably a bunch more little things that you'll need as well that always seem to pop up. I don't think you can add just the compass without the rest of the digital gauges, but maybe.

I need to replace it because it isn't there. To many people try to correct each others grammar on here.if someone smashes the hell out of your Windows in your car with a hammer.I believe you would have to REPLACE it because it is not there. No one gets smart points for pointing out grammar. If you are not going to help then don't just ramble on.
Az-ZBum Exactly how would I install(Haynes Manuel?) the compass please explain and where might I buy it.Thanks
And my car is analog
And Are you Paul?

So your car has the digital dash, right? Then all you do is put the replacement into the opening. Instructions are in the haynes manual. Buy one from a junkyard, dealership, ebay, etc. Yes. I'm Paul. Why do you ask?
No it's analog not digital. Is there a different way to put it in for analog Nissan's.Or is it the same process.
I'm Stinvil From the 300ZXclub.I was the one asking about installing a Head Unit. But I changed my mind about the Nissan I was about to buy.The person who was selling was a bit shady.I looked online and found a 1986 Turbo 300zx With a touch Screen Head unit.I don't have to install haha. It's the same year but turbo and the engine sounds like a beast

Then it's not replacing as the car never had one to begin with. Replacing means you are taking out an old one and putting in a new one. YOU want to ADD something that was never there in the first place. I already told you what you have to do and YOU won't be able to accomplish the task. YOU will need a working parts car with digital dash to grab ALL the necessary parts. Not even remotely the same process.
