I am planning on driving to Illinois tomorrow to buy a car but the owner is in florida he says he has the title signed but even though he has it signed will I still be able to transfer the title into my name? Or does he have to sign it in the presence of a notary? PLease help I need to know before tomorrow!! Thanx

I don't know how it's done where you are but in Texas if the owner signs the title and any liens are signed off on, and a transfer affadavit is signed and filled out then it's all good.

Re: quick please help!!!!
depends on the state. Minnesota didn't require a notary. Arizona did. My dad (lived in Minnesota) sold me his truck a few years ago, and the Minnesota title didn't require a notary. When I went to have it titled in Arizona, they didn't ask any questions.
If this guy has it already signed, more than likely he has done everything he needs to to make sure the title can be transfered. If the state requires a notary, he's probably got it notorized already.
