New Z31 Owner
New Z31 Owner
Howdy,
I recently bought an 87 NA 300zx off of Facebook Marketplace and I'm super stoked about it. I got it from the second owner who bought it from his boss, the original owner. The PO is a mechanic who was moving and needed to sell. It has its imperfections, but I checked the vitals (all seemingly ok) and it seems to drive fine. I'm graduating to cars from fixing motorcycles so I'm up for some learning and trial/error, but It doesn't seem like this car will need anything drastic which is a blessing. Excited to learn a lot along the way! Sorry in advance for any dumb questions, I'll try to think things through before jumping to the forums.
A bit about the car: 2-seater, Canadian import w/ 132k miles (see below), GL-L trim digital dash that mostly of works, interior is nice except some drivers side tears that seem fixable.
It's got a couple quirks, the biggest being; per the model number it's Canadian. Totally fine and reasonable, as I'm in close proximity to Canada. The speedo on the digital dash obviously switches, but the other items (liters to empty, km to empty, avg kmph, and km/l) are locked in metric. That's fine, my main concern is obviously the odometer. I ran a test with a gps ride-tracking app, and the odometer is in Miles. I had a brief moment where I thought I got an 83k mi car for the price of a 132k mi car, but those hopes were dashed. The PO is a mechanic after all, so that would have been a dumb oversight on his part. My question is how does this work? From what I see online, all Canadian cars have metric odometers. Do they calc out the mileage during the import process and "correct" it, and change the gearing to mi? Or was this never in km?
The ultimate goal I think is to get it back to stock, then modify it as desired. For now, I'm focused on the history, and I don't want to pay $50 for car fax haha.
Appreciate ya taking the time to read. Have a good one!

SF models were available with Red or Tan Cloth Interiors. In Canada and Japan, the Turbo models were available in 2 seat (slick top) as well as 2+2 Models. SF was the base model with 14"X 5.5 Steel wheels and no power options other than Power steering. That's all I know.
