new motor, new to z's, ideas?
Ok, I just bought this car. I got it for like 500 bucks. The motor didnt last as long as I thought it would. So now I need a new one. I got a company thatll sell me the jap non-turbo (mine is a non-turbo) for 900. Whats the differance in the jap engines as far as the non-turbos go? Is there anything faster I can get for a 1000 or less? I need all the help I can get.

around here you can get a junkyard turbo engine for about 200 plus maybe another 30 or so for a warranty. That wouldnt include the turbo or other items required like the front crossmember or the intake piping. It's the same price whether it's turbo or not since it only includes a "long block" not any of the exhaust parts (they consider the turbocharger part of the exhaust as it bolts onto the exhaust manifold). Check around local u-pull-it yards and see what kind of price you can get from them. Granted this may only be cheaper if you plan on installing it yourself....
good luck.
good luck.

Hi
I bought a 1986 300ZX non -turbo about 2 years ago and it needed an engine when I bought it. I bought a used engine from Japan that had about 45K and I had it installed with a new radiator which the mechanic recommended for a total of $1,500 and he gave me a 1 yr. warranty. The engines from Japan cost between $500 - $700. I've been completely happy with my engine and I have not had any problems at all.
