Hello. My daily driver crapped out on me last week and I'd rather not take on a car payment right now. I own a pretty mint 1987 300zx turbo with approx 83K original miles. I purchased from the original owner in 2012 with 53K miles. I live in a northern city in the U.S. I keep it garaged and have never driven it in the winter. I've made very minor mods to it: K&N air filter, straight pipe and did the stance coil over set-up.
When I drive the car, i have fun with it but I have never taken it to the track. I have used it to go on some longer road trips (500 miles round/ trip), but I usually just use it a few days per week in the summer to drive around the city/suburbs. All this is to say that I baby the hell out of my Z and in my mind it was never meant to be my primary mode of transportation.
Is there anybody out there who has used their Z31 as a daily driver? Did you like it? Did it work? Anybody have strong opinions on using a z31 as a daily? Am I about to ruin my baby? More wear and tear, etc. Or is driving it more actually a good thing? I've heard mixed ideas on all of this.
Maybe this is a silly post and I'm paranoid but I'm interested to hear your thoughts.
Nice car. I'm sure the vast majority of Z car owners use them as daily drivers. Even those with Collector insurance. Your car has an interference motor (in case you didn't know) but if you have faith in the existing timing belt then: happy motoring, these cars are meant to be driven.
