Need guidance on Carbon Canister
Need guidance on Carbon Canister
I have a few questions regarding my Carbon Canister, blower motor housing, and other mods im doing. On my 88T i removed the entire AC/Heater system including core, high psi lines, vents, ac/heater unit control, vacuum lines, evaporator, condenser, compressor, compressor bracket, etc. My goal is to minimize or rid of entire vacuum system, open more room in engine bay, minimize un-needed wiring, minimize un-needed components, and have the ability to apply heavy mods and have a clean look under the hood.
1. I want to get rid of my Carbon Canister. By the look of it, looks useless besides a line running from and to the fuel tank. Skeptic on this. Is this a Fuel Vent line? Is it really that necessary to keep Canister? can i cap off the vent line?
2. I want to rip out the entire Blower motor housing and free up room for my future mods in glove box area. BM Housing is in the way. Any wires that i should be careful of? Any importance in this area? Any wires running to and from other instruments?
3. I want to rid of Coolant Resvoir Tank and open more room. Do i absolutly need this if Im building to run a 550hp Z? I figure along as i maintain a proper mixture and amount in cooling system i should be okay. Right?
4. Planning to install a heavy duty oil cooler. I want to mount this in front of radiator and later my intercooler in front of the oil cooler. Would this be a good location for my oil cooler or should i have this mounted in the same location as the automatics in the wheel well?
5. Can i remove my EGR, Auxilary air valve, PCV, Emergency relief valve, and Air regulator from the plenum? Benefits n Consquences?
6. Does the fuel pressure regulator need high or low vacuum to operate correctly? I was debating to put in an adjustable FPR and rid of the vacuum. If so how can i properly tune this AFPR to my fuel demanding needs as far as measuring pressure?
7. Im unsure but would like to know the importance of various parts located near ignition coil. Appears like a smog pump or air pump of some sort. has vacuum lines, a tube extending out to the exhaust system, boost sensor mounted here, some solenoids, air lines coming from intake system, some sensors and wiring attached. Would like to clear this out. What is the necessity of this? Benefits and Consquences?
I really appreciate as much advice and guidance i can recieve. I have so far gotten and continue to get more done. Ive done a lot of research thru various manuals, from dealer, chiltons, and haynes but nothing beats asking the pros whom been there and done that. Thanks!

Very Useful! Thanks! I wish they would elaborate a little more on the benefits and consquences and maybe possibly show some write-ups on how to perform these modifications. Overall it was informative and put me on to a good starting point.
I wasnt paying attention but this little website is very helpful on the write ups i was asking about earlier.
