The inside of the New Z

So I know I posted pics of the outside of the car so I thought I could post some of the inside of it. I just got through stripping it down to the carpet well the majority of it I have yet to vacuum the old or clean anything, I do think it looks pretty darn good for being 30 years old. I bought new carpet to go in it, figured it might be a good project while it's raining out.

Thanks

I can recommend a great cleaner spray for the carpet and seats. It's got the word 'stuff' in the name, Tuff Stuff I think, comes in a big can, you spray it on dry as a foam that all soaks in after a minute. Then you just rub it out with a clean terry towel that's pretty wet but not dripping. Cleans just about everything very fast and smells good. Parts stores should have it. Made my Zs look new again.

No rust worth a dang! Did you check under the foam tool block and the spare tire well?

Guys use the old carpet pieces as templates to cut new carpet to fit. If you threw the old carpet out, ouch.

So the only spot that I can see some rust but not a lot is under the foam tool block on the driver side rear. The car has the original spare tire and wheel along with a can of Datsun tire repair foam lol.

As soon as I saw your post I walked straight out to the curb and grabbed the old carpet out of the trash lol My neighbors are beginning to think i'm crazy. So I'm going to be looking for good carpet and that foam stuff that was under it I guess it might be some kind of noise insulation or w/e I want to make the carpet nice and poofy like the original carpet if possible. I'll be buying it as soon as I can find it.

Thanks bud.

Or you can order a new molded carpet that fits like the original:

84-89 Nissan 300ZX Carpet 2-Seater Complete Kit 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989

The heavy mass backing sounds like a good idea, but it really isn't. Save the extra cost for a set of matching floor mats instead.

I've seen this site a couple of times and was thinking about ordering from them. I'm still new to this and lack the time to do a ton of research on what people have used so it takes me a bit to try and get everything arranged right. So you say no to the extra mass backing they offer? What about their sound and heat barrier they have "I wonder if it's any different then what Home DepoDepot sales for attics....". Why are there so many grey colors???? I guess I need to get some samples. Do I need to add any of that back stuff they offer?

From the description, I think the sound/heat barrier material sold by Stock Interiors is the same or similar to Dynamat, which you can buy at O'Reilly's or on Amazon. I haven't used it in my Z, but have used it to replace the peeling foam insulation in an old John Deere tractor cab. It's a heavy foil backed with a layer of asphalt. Simply strip off the backing paper, press in place and roll out any bubbles. I liked it for that particular project because it stayed in place on a vertical surface. I've never seen a need for it in my NA engines Z. I skipped on the heavy mat backing for the carpet because of comments by others on the forum. Mostly difficult to cut and alters the fit to the point the carpet doesn't lay down like the original.

Sorry, no. I've taken the interior back out of the car to rewire for a new stereo system and work on my tranny swap. To be honest, I just did a quick layout, trimming next to the sills and where it tucks up underneath the storage box behind the seats. I decided to hold off trimming in the shifter area since I'm not sure if the manual shifter aligns exactly where the auto one resided. So, I didn't get as far as putting the seats back in. I figured the last thing I need is to drip brake fluid onto it when putting the master clutch cylinder in. Except for a change in color, it looks as good as the OEM. Even has the vinyl heal pad as the original. Like a lot of guys, I start on one thing and then half way through change directions. I spent last winter color sanding the body, but haven't had time to buff it out completely. Life tends to get in the way.

Lol, I know exactly what you mean, I started on the motor and did a complete 180 to the interior. So since I have all this interior out of my car before I put in the new carpet what all should I consider doing being that I have access to new things.

Like you said speakers for one, maybe fuel filter or pump if it's in the gas tank? I'm putting new quarter windows in. Eventually I will be taking the dash out to paint it but kind of want to get thru what I have out already.

Thanks
