Ignition switch/key code

Ignition switch/key code
I just purchased a 1985 Nissan 300zx 31 for a project car but no keys. I had a friend to tell me that a key code was listed on the passenger side door lock, I also read on this site that it was a key code listed in the dash, so I looked in the dash and it was a sticker with two listings one listing said ignition key code and it had a 4 digit number 3235 the other listing said door key code but it was blank no numbers. So I took the 3235 to a locksmith and he made a key. The key would only open the rear hatch and both doors It would not turn the ignition switch. I proceeded to remove the passenger side door panel . I found a 4 digit number (4295) on a sticker on the back of the lock in the passenger door. I want to believe that these digits are the correct code for the ignition switch. Am I going in the right direction with this is there a good chance that the 4295 number are the switch key code.

As far as I know, Nissan placed a z31’s key number in one and only one place: on a sticker on the inside panel of the glove compartment door. It must have been a previous owner of your car who put stickers with a key no. on it on the locks themselves.
You can take a gamble and have a no. 4295 key made and hope that it works for the ignition. The cost of a key will probably be $10-20 at a dealership or a locksmith.
Compare this with the cost of removing the ignition lock cylinder and taking it to a locksmith and having him figure out what they key no. is and then making the key for you. Of course, you can remove the ignition lock cylinder yourself and it’ll cost less than having a mechanic do it for you. But it’ll still cost more than having a 4295 key made if 4295 is the right key no. for the ignition. So it might be worth the gamble.
Even if 4295 is the right key no. for the ignition, you’ll end up having two keys on your key ring for the car: 4295 (ignition) and 3235 (doors and hatch). If you want just one key for all the locks, you’ll have to buy a lock replacement kit from a Nissan parts dept. if they’re even still available.

I tried the 4295 key code number, unfortunately it did not work in my ignition, so I guess plan b is up next and that is to change the ignition. thanks for the responses.

No, it didn’t.
z31s came with two keys: a master key and a valet key. The top of the master and valet keys have different shapes. Both keys have the same four digit key no. identified by the sticker on the inside of the glove compartment door.
The master key locks/unlocks the ignition, doors, hatch, glove compartment, and hatch security compartment.
The valet key locks/unlocks the ignition and doors. I can’t remember if the valet key can unlock the hatch. I’ll have to try it again. I have a valet key but I don’t carry it with me.
The car also came with a third key for the T-top locks if your car has T-tops. The 1985 T-top key is a different and smaller key than the master key and valet key.
