Hatch Strut- Broken bolt

Flame away if you must...

87 Stick..WTF

The darn upper bolt of the old strut broke off in the hatch..I assume the only thing to do is try to drill it out. It felt like it melted..and I was really careful for it not to happen on the second strut..

I changed these out on my 88 and I do not recall this happening!
It seems the easiest things are the hardest to accomplish!

This really sucks!

Any ideas to help are appreciated!

If you have access to a mig welder, zap on a bolt. The heat will also help back it out. Otherwise yes, you need to drill it out and use a 4-edge tapered extractor to back it out. PB Blaster is your friend.

if you got a harbor freight near you buy a set of left hand drills. try drilling out the broken part with them. often the shock and heat of drilling will loosen the thread and the drill will walk the bolt right out. you will have to drill it out one way or the other so try the left hand drill trick.
