Hi folks. I recently picked up 1986 nissan 300zx z31, non turbo. I have attached a picture of the sending unit atop the fuel tank. One those white colored wire connectors (porcelain or ceramic tip?) Is broken. How to find a replacement? Do you know the name for it? Part number? I hate to replace the whole assembly. Anything you can do to help me will be appreciated. Seems to me that it is called a bulk head wire connector? Seems like it is just generic item and not nissan specific. The thing is driving me crazy. Also planning to replace the starter wiring harness. What i am looking for is the female connector? Do you know what type it is? Thank you.
If it's the original style fuel sending unit, they tend to go bad like mine did. I'd honestly recommend replacing the whole thing with a redesigned unit from Nissan while you're in there. It's $300 well spent
Hi
been new to 300 zx and got me one Z31 from 1986 and I also have problem with this sending unit. Wanna buy a new one, but not sure if there is different types for standard dash and digital dash it they are the same. Can you help me on that? Thanks
I can't honestly say that I knew this but, there is indeed a difference between the analog and digital sending units.

Thanks a lot, even it is not a good news. I haven't found any marked as digital ones except the Z store, were there are unavilable. Any tips, where I can get one for Digital?
I just dropped my tank on my '86 analog 300zx and my sending unit looks like the one you posted labeled for the digital one. Any idea why? The car only had 1 previous owner before me.
I JUST replaced mine. I have a needle dash and the original one that I just took out was the "cylinder" style one above. Bought this one on Amazon for $211 and it's working PERFECTLY. The installation is literally 5 minutes, comes with the correct connector and a replacement o-ring.
So i was told recently that the sending unit style was changed in either 86 or 87 to the new style with the 2 floats. The cylinder style that you, and I have, should've had a black wiring harness coming off of it. And that's how you would be able to tell the difference between the one for the analog dash (the needle dash) and the digital dash (which would have a white wiring harness coming from it rather than the black one). Hope this helps
While there is a definite difference in wire that carries a digital signal (think coax cable) rather than an analog one, isn't the original goal replacing the connectors? These ceramic affairs or what ever they are made of can be found on the fuel sending unit and a whole host of connectors on my '80s era P cars (among others) and they're awful. Anyways, one possibility is to replace the female ends on the wiring harness with a bullet-style connector as pictured. Another would be to go wandering through your local junkyard.
