Engine Swap
I have an 87 300ZX N/A and i want more power! my car is 5-speed manual with 150,000 miles and it runs great. I recently found an 86 Limited Edition turbo that was totaled but the engine and trany appear to be in good condition, would it be possible to do a good engine and trany swap, if so how much would it cost for a professional swap of this nature. would my stock clutch work with the much more powerful engine?

Re: Engine Swap
There is no such thing as an 86 limited edition anything. the turbo engine has about 40 more stock horses, Why not use the clutch from the 86T?
i would guess a competant shop would charge about 700-1500 for an engine/tranny swap if you supply all the parts. (this is a wide range, but you will find places that will charge you alot especially if they really don't care to do that type of work.) you will need the front crossmember and intake piping and driveshaft at the very least, along with the ecu and efi harness, but if you have the entire car then you should have all that you need. (there are other sensors and gizmo's you will also need).

Re: Engine Swap
Are you sure theirs no such thing because the back of his car says limited edition, the car appears to look like any other 86' turbo but it says limited edition on the back. It has the electronicly adjustable shocks and struts and an all digital display with an accleration meter and all kinds of gadets

Re: Engine Swap
That's just the package that comes with the turbo with a digital dash... the only limited edition I know of is the Shiro, but that was only 88... Maybe someone got bored and put extra tags on it to make it look cool? other wise, just sounds like an 86 turbo with digital dash to me
