Driving in winter

My question is "Is it ok to drive an 85 300zx NA in winter conditions with winter tires?" Safety-wise, not performance-wise.

Are you happy now, snwbrdrphat540?

not much of an introduction.... but seriously... that was the only question left to answer? answer is, its the driver that makes it safe, not the car. thats the case for ANY vehicle....

That's all I needed to hear... I'll make a proper intro if I do decide to buy the car. Thanks.

It's not bad. It's a hell of a lot easier at stock height though. Mine is lowered roughly 2 inches, and it is a bitch to move around with a bit of snow. I guess it doesn't help that I have like 100 degrees of negative camber either.

I'd venture a guess that it wouldn't be that bad at stock height with a nice set of winter tires on it though.

I'd like to test winter tires out myself. I've noticed a huge difference simply using all season tires, with a 50lb sandbag as close to being over each rear tire as I could get them. I took the extra 100lbs of weight out from over the tires and boy did my car slip around a good bit easier.

i like the lighter rear end. it behaves much better in braking and turning instances. i would like the weight in starting from a stop instance i guess....

FWD is usually better....then again my SRT-4 was terrible in snow. I remember once I was driving thru the Wendy's drive thru lane on a snowy day and slipping and slidin all over the place, and I asked the guy at the window if everybody was having problems and he said "no, just you"
Damn Neon!

well i'm not really big on the FWD cars, they're no fun to drive, and they're are no decent AWD cars for sale in my price range.

i don't find it very hard to control fish-tailing, so that shouldnt be a problem...

if you have room on the road RWD is ok. If roads are tilted and icy the FWD will pull you were you need to go. RWD just slips out to the side and you end up in the ditch. I guess how bad the snow and ice is will be a big factor.

in my FWD car im usually manning the E-brake cause the damn things understeer to easily. i like the handling of RWD over FWD in all conditions except maybe rain. AWD pwns all though for any special road conditions.

1G talon TSI AWD you can find a good one for about 2k im SURE.

talons in decent condition go for 4g+ around here. and plus they're sooooo ugly. i would never even consider buying a talon. just the suggestion is nearly insulting

wow.... are you sheltered or something? seeing as how the 4G63 motor is the motor that powers the fastest AWD and fastest 4cylinder car in the world. that sure is presumptious statement. the 1G is also a light chassis and has fairly incredible aerodynamics for a stock car. i also find it very attractive and aggressive looking. obviously you've never seen a respectable talon. and 4G for a 1G is rediculous and you simply arent looking in the right places.

Get a Pulsar. They are cheap and go good in the Snw.
260Z's are the worst in the snow! (the turtle says so)

when u said 1g, i thought u meant 1 grand, as in 1000 dollars... my buddy picked up a AWD Turbo Talon last year for 6500$, so i got quite a good look at it from every angle, it reminded me of my ***.

but that's just me, i think car styling has been downhill since the mid-70s. every company's car look worse now than they did 35 years ago, porsche, ferrarri, dodge, ford, even the z-cars are going downhill.. did u see that nissan commercial that shows the evolution of the z-car with kid growing up and dreaming? when i saw it I asked my brother "why do car manufacturers keep making uglier and uglier cars? are they gay?"

the only good-looking cars being produced (and in the past 15 years, for that matter) are the chrysler 300, dodge charger, and thats all i can think of...

What about the Corvette or Viper or Ferrari 430???

I agree cars used to be better looking but there are still some good ones out there. The difference is modern styling is based so much on aerodynamics....thats why, sadly, you'll never see another car that looks like a 240Z....

to me.. 90's was the high point in the automotive world. and believe me... it was. lol. sept american car companies, they had their time to shine in the 60-70's. 6500 for a talon? WTF was he smoking? you sure thats not a 2G instead of a 1G???? and even then, both are very attractive.

well i have no idea the difference between a 1g and a 2g... is it 2nd generation? than yes, his was a 2nd gen... if thats not what it means, dont bother explaining because i dont care...

and if ur saying 90's was the high point for the auto world except the american companies, than are u saying it's the asian companies who were making nice cars? ARE YOU SAYING YOU LIKE HONDA CIVIC'S?!?!?!?
if u are, than that changes everything... all ur opinions on car appearances are worthless because they are WRONG... if this is true than u are part of the reason i hate being a part of my generation... please tell me otherwise, for the sake of the man upstairs, please...

im saying i liked Z32's MKIV supras and FD3'S, skylines, 240SX's, mitsu eclipse/all other offshoots of them, and i know theres much more im forgeting. porsche worked with ruff for the yellow bird (though not japanese) it was the years supercar's really impressed people. also the pulsar GTI-R, honda.... NSX. STI's EVO's (though not in america but neither was the skyline). the 90's is when sports cars were re-born and probably the greatest decade for cars other than american car companies. now euro car's are impressive and it seems now 2008 they are trying to re-create the sports car to what it should be again but emmisions will always keep it down.

are you tripping on acid to forget about these cars? and yes thats the difference between 1G and 2G thought it was relativley common knowledge but guess i was wrong.

Don't forget snw, that the 90s were also the decade where all the Japanese sports cars died. The Z, Supra, RX-7 all got too expensive. They were originally sports cars for the masses but moved out of their target demographic.

I still say the 60s and 70s were the best style wise.....the 240z, Toyota 2000GT, Jaguar XKE, Ferrari Daytona....some of the most beautiful cars ever. And the American muscle cars- especially the mopars- were good-looking cars too...
