How do you get all the pipes to look so glossy.

I started cleaning my engine today, very nasty, i don't think its ever been cleaned, or it sure looks that way. So much dirt on the Engine bay walls ect. The tar built up is pretty nasty as well or w/e that really nasty sticky black crap is

I kinda got lost in teh midst of all the :

RAWR!!! ME USE TOOTHBRUSH!!!! IT WORK GOODER!!!!

NOEZ!!!! ME USE PRESSURE WASHER!!! YOU WUSSY!!! SPRAY IT OFF!!!

RAWR!!! MY WAY SAFER!!!

MY WAY FASTER!!!

RAWR!!!

RAWR!!!!!

So in simple english, if I park my Z, pop the hood and spray down the engine and sourrounding areas with Simple Green (engine being cool) and hose it out lightly enough to get the gunk out and then maybe drying off the large amounts of water WITHOUT hosing out my alternator.....it should be just fine?

In simple English.... cover your distributor w/ a plastic bag so water doesn't have a chance to get to the rotor, and spray away. Getting water on the alternator doesn't hurt anything...

Has no one in this forum ever driven in the rain????????????

As do I

I only address the alternator since I'm on my 3rd one in 6 years. (factory, crappy replacement and the most recent killed via power steering fluid leak)

Yeah, you can clean a z31 with a pressure washer. But, the z32 leaves that option as a no-no. 409, Simple Green and Isopropal (90%, not the 70% you get at the drug store). Plus, a little time/effort and your engine will be sparkling.
