Dash Conversion Help
Dash Conversion Help
Ok, i know there has been many post in the past about this one, but they all branched out in weird topics. I need a straight answer as quick as possible. I have an Extra analog gauge cluster, and i want to swap out a digital Dash and put in the analog. What problems will arise doing the swap? The difficulty of the swap? Basicly...what the hell do you do. I havent messed with it yet, but before i mess around. I want to know if im going in the right direction. There are some well respected Z owners here, so im sure i might get an idea on whats going to happen.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Dash Conversion Help
is that it? theres no evil clown gona pop up and scare me if i do something wrong? its all direct fit? with the wiring harness of course..how much does wiring harness cost? or is it better if i just got it from a junk yard..i really dont like hacking into junk yards..but if i have to i will.
Re: Dash Conversion Help
i'd say the best bet is to find a harness at a yard from the same year as yours (only analog if that's what you want). pick one that's not been chopped up for aftermarket alarms/stereo's etc. You'll also find a good circuit diagram useful to determine wiring layout/redesign if needed.
Re: Dash Conversion Help
Where can i find the circuit diagram? At the Yard? im confused about that part..but i guess im just gona head down to the yard over the weekend and pick up the harness. Thanks for the info guys, stay cool drive safe.

Re: Dash Conversion Help
the circuit diagram you'll find in the haynes manual or the factory service manuals. Neither of which will do you much good. Basically, the harness will really only lay out one way correctly. And since it's at least 14 years old, it's probably preshaped for you. You'll need the harness, both instrument clusters, and the climate control box.
You'll also have to pull the dash to get it in and out easily.
Pulling the dash is not as hard as it may sound. There are some good instructions in the archives on z31.com for it.
