Car won't stay runing

My 85 300zx wil start but won't stay running. I've checked the fuel pump, and installed a new fuel filter. I checked the cap and rotor, the seemed fine. Not much spark either

Welcome to ZDriver!

Have you checked the ecu diagnostic codes? Checked all the sensors and connections (mainly the MAF, TPS, and CHTS?

Did the car used to run good? When did it start having probs?

No, I didn't check the codes, I don't think there is even a computer.. It ran perfict then it sat for 3 hours and it rained. when I went to start it back up it idles for 2 seconds at 1k then just died down... I just installed a new Mass Airflow Sensor but its still doing the same thing. I can unplug the mass airflow and it accually stays running but will not go over 2000 rmps..weird huh?

es de uh, if the car is fuel injected, it has a computer... where do you think the wiring to the Mass Air Sensor goes? Click: http://www.duglin.net/zcar/z31/z311586t.htm

Your TPS is wet (did you drive it in the rain?). Pull the plug, blow dry it, re-install.

That was my next try, the TPS, the new one is coming in tomorow. I don't think I can use that link because it's a non turbo but i'll give it a try either way, it's appreciated for the responces!! i'll give it what I got!

It doesn't matter if it's a turbo or n/a... same procedure...

And you don't need to replace the TPS... just clean and dry it.

The new one didn't work... It backfired through the Mass air flow, white... so it may be out of timing for some odd reason, wasnt too long ago that a new timing belt was put on, could it have gone into safe mode?

First google result: http://www.nissanforums.com/z31-300z...z31-codes.html

or you could look it up in your Haynes manual or FSM.
