Building a racecar
Hey guys, im looking to build a small racecar for a track near my house. The car has to be STOCK. I can get away with a few weight reduction things etc. The class im looking to enter is 6 cylinder and under, 1980-1999, no DOHC, no 16 valve, it is very strict. Ill try and post the rulebook later.
What is the best year to buy? Im looking for the most power, but light as possible. Im looking at a Z31 or 89 and older 240sx. What do you guys think I should do. What is more powerful (power to weight)
a ford thunderbird took the championship this year. people racing honda's are left in the dust. I need a REAL car.

It's a small track, mostly straights. Sorry I forgot to mention all cars must be N/A. No turbos,supers, etc. no race computers, race pulleys. etc. STOCK. I know with my old dodge neon you can take the throttle body from an auto car, and use it on a manual car and you can gain about 10hp. Stuff like that they will never catch. Neons are banned because they are 16 valve otherwise I would use it, I have all the parts from my old one.
The car can be lowered (cut springs), and have brake swaps but they have to be available on that car from factory. Ex. cant use 300zx brakes on a 240sx etc.
This class is for beginners, the class a step up would require a lot more money, and right now I only want to race as a hobby. Any suggestions welcome.

Believe me I want to do those mods. I wish it was open and I could mod my car however I wanted. Eventually I will look at other tracks but considering I want to keep the costs down, keeping it relatively stock will benefit me.
My example was a dodge neon. Image two, both of which are stock, the only difference was transmission (I can use auto or manual) the throttle body from a manual neon is 48mm, the tb on a an auto is 52mm. the spring is more stiff as well and it made a noticeable increase in performance. stuff like this I could easily sneak under the radar of the track techs.

this is a DUMB class, lol, they should allow light modifications, suspension and maybe exhaust or something. you can through some stiff struts in and springs im sure, i dont think they can identify those as aftermearket dude. lol. alse sway bars and end links just paint them to look old and stock. its all about cheating in stuff like this. you could even build the internals and they would never know, thats what people will do, well if you can win money they would.

im starting to change my mind about this class/track. I called them today and asked them more information. They told me all domestic cars are allowed. Japanese cars must be inspected and approved by the track before anything else. European cars are not allowed all together. So basically if they say an 84 300zx is not allowed because well, they feel like it. Then thats the call and I cant use it. This place is messed up. I need to find a track that doesn't have soooo many stupid restrictions.
They wont let me use 16 valve, they don't let you mod the car, that means your stuck racing bone stock sunfires, cavaliers and civics (if they allow you to use a civic). Theres more fun and action on the streets than that. People at least have some mods and shiny wheels. Too bad it isn't 6 cylinder and under all out, no rules beside safety stuff. That would be so much fun. Do you guys have that in the States? Canada is ***** for racing.

WTF is a Z32 MC going to accomplish?
Could you use the Z32 brakes? They would say Nissan right on them. Could you use later model stuff of the same body style?
And the lightest would be an 84/85 slicktop.
Swap in the 88-89 NA differential (3.9 gears) for better acceleration.
Or, if you could find one, an 88-89 slicktop would be the best.
