Back Brake wearing down fast

12K miles ago I had one Caliper replaced due to the piston being seized. New pads a rotor here and there..and now 12k miles down the road I am hearing the squealing of the metal piece against the rotor telling me the pad has worn down.
Brake pads should give 25-30K miles. I also note a lot of brake dust on the left back wheel. In all my years I have only seen brake dust accumulate on the front wheels. I do not feel any detectable drag like the piston grabbing into the rotor..as the car rolls smoothly both forward and backward. Non the less, something is wearing the brake down too quickly. I don't want to spend on a new caliper..should I just shoot some spray on the piston , clean it off as best I can and see what happens?

take both calipers apart and clean them thoroughly. if the parts don't slide smoothly you get binding. probably the old one is not working as designed and the new one is doing all the braking. use silicon grease to relube them. pins and shims are available on line if you find things worn. Why did you only replace one caliper? always best to do things in pairs when you do stuff like that. The fifty bucks you saved has now come back to haunt you.

I brought the car into the shop..he charged $167 for the caliper and who remembers for labor. Pretty sure they checked the other caliper..but yup, I may have had the choice to replace both.

I'll let you know what I find.

Thx Roger!
